English Level 1 & 2 (Functional Skills)

During this course you will improve your reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. You will learn to write clearly and concisely, being able to apply this knowledge to a number of practical writing tasks. You will increase your command of English and express yourself more confidently. The course will broaden your skills and confidence to help you get on in life and work. Within the course you are required to complete discussions which will be assessed by your tutor, your reading skills will also be assessed. You will be required to answer questions to show your skills and understanding of a variety of texts. You will cover and learn skills which will enable you to pick out information from articles and present your responses as well as writing for different purposes, for example, to write a letter, an email or a newspaper article.*

Maths Level 1 & 2 (Functional Skills)

We all need maths in everyday life and this qualification will help you to learn in a way that makes it real and relevant to everyone. Our experienced tutors will support you to learn the maths skills needed for your next steps in life, work and study. Functional skills help you to develop the maths skills that you need to be able to use on a daily basis. This will include not just the basic numeracy skills but also how to calculate change, work out what bank statements mean, learn about metric units of measurement and many more skills that are all essential. You will learn skills to enable you to make sense of a situation and represent it mathematically as well as interpreting and communicating the results of analysis.*

Teaching Assistant Level 1 & 2

This qualification is available in both Level 1 and Level 2. It will provide an understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children or young people in schools. Within the course you will learn about children and young people’s development, safeguarding their welfare, and communication. This course is perfect for those wishing to work in unsupervised roles that support children’s’ learning. Your tutor will assess your skills by using a range of methods which include observations in your placement setting, a portfolio of evidence and written assignments. Following this course you could progress onto the next Level of Teaching Assistant course or seek employment in this field.*

Paediatric First Aid Level 3

The objective of the qualification is to benefit Learners by enabling them to attain the knowledge and practical competencies needed to deal with a range of first aid situations when looking after children. This qualification is for people who have a specific responsibility at work, or in voluntary and community activities, to provide first aid to children (including babies) when dealing with:

•    An emergency situation

•    Chronic or sudden paediatric illness

 •   Paediatric injury

Emergency First Aid at Work

The purpose of this qualification is to prepare the Learner to develop the skills and knowledge needed to administer emergency first aid. This qualification is for people who have a specific responsibility at work, or in voluntary and community activities, to provide basic first aid to people in a range of emergency first aid situations.*

Sign Language - Adults & Children

Our Sign Language course is available for both adults and children and level 1 and level 2. The course cover literacy and numeracy in sign language including deaf awareness and how to communicate with deaf people.  The course covers deaf alphabet, family, hobbies, jobs, colours, clothing, food, equal opportunities and deaf awareness. The children’s course will cover colours, numbers, letters and personal information. Children must be accompanied by an adult.*

Talk English

The Talk English Project puts on weekly English conversation classes for adults who have low levels of spoken English and literacy in English.  We teach people language they need to use in their everyday lives.  This includes how to give personal information, how to book an appointment at the doctor, how to fill in a form, how to talk to your children's teacher.  We also go on trips out of the classroom so that our learners can practise English in real situations.  Our classes visit places like the local library, the local super market and local parks.  We also travel by bus to visit places like Manchester Art Gallery and Manchester Museum.*

ESOL for Beginners

Our ESOL classes are designed to get people speaking and understanding the language at once. We offer complete English-language courses from Beginner to Advanced level that combine easy to use visual learning, grammar worksheets, practice exercises which allow learners to study at home and audio examples designed to improve listening and speaking skills.

The Beginner level is designed for those who have learned the basics of the language. The course uses spoken and written exercises that will help develop the core English language skills; writing, reading, speaking and listening.*

ESOL for Advanced Learners

*This course is suitable for those who have a solid foundation in English and are looking to improve their knowledge and fluency. We look to make the There is also an emphasis on how British people actually use the language in their day to day conversation and life. By learning English learners will also learn about other cultures. Few experiences will make you grow as a person more than learning the values, habits and way of life in a culture that is different to your own.

All English classes are aligned to the international standard of the Common Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Art (Improve Your Mood Through Art)

Take some time out to relax and meditate, whilst exploring art materials such as collage, painting and print technique. Explore stress and what causes it and make connections with the rest of your group.*

Feel good friday.png

Feel Good Friday

Feel Good Friday aims to promote the mental health and wellbeing of the older members of our community through a co-ordinated programme of fitness, food and fun. Participants will share a meal with friends, engage in armchair yoga sessions and have social time, giving participants an opportunity to make friendships. Our Feel Good Friday group take part in a number of different trips and enjoy a cooked 2 course meal each week. We welcome any new members at any time. *

Arm Chair Yoga

This type of session is aimed at and a benefit for senior and less mobile people. Each activity allows participants to take part in yoga exercises whilst allowing them to stay stabilised and sat on a chair. The sequences help with stress, pain and fatigue but can also help with balance and joint lubrication. During the 1-hour session, the members also take part in relaxation and meditation exercises.*
